Seems like quite some time since the end of the Cold War. The world continues to open up in so many ways. Been thinking about the Cold War a lot recently since watching "The Lives Of Others", so thought I'd put together a video playlist of some of the most memorable tracks inspired by that era.

1. Sting - Russians
I never liked this berk, or this song. But there's those that do. Interesting period peice anyway.
2. Nena - 99 Luftballons (99 Red Balloons)
Perhaps the most enduring song on the list. Here's the German version.
3. Elton John - Nikita
I visited Berlin a few years ago, on the site of Checkpoint Charlie there's now a sandwich bar called SnackPoint Charlie.
4. Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Two Tribes
Hell, everyone thought we were gonna die with a four minute warning. Not even enough time to play this!
5. Scorpions - Winds Of Change
Warning! - Contains a whistling solo.
6. The Beatles - Back In The USSR
Here's Beatle Paul playing this White Album track to a packed Red Square in 2003. Time change eh!
7. Billy Bragg - The Space Race Is Over
Kids don't want to be astronauts any more.
8. Queen - Hammer To Fall
Fred & co get political. Cue one arm salutes.
9. Bob Dylan - A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall
Bay of Pigs etc. Apocalyptic!
10. David Bowie - Heroes
Young love prevails whether east or west.
11. Lou Reed - Berlin
One of the Dark Master's best tracks.
